Microsoft's Job Cuts Have No Impact on CWA-Represented Staff
In response to Microsoft's recent layoffs of 1,900 employees from its gaming division, the Communications Workers of America (CWA) has stated that none of its represented staff members were affected by the cuts. The CWA represents a subset of Microsoft employees, including those from ZeniMax Studios and Activision Blizzard. A senior QA tester and member of ZeniMax Workers United-CWA, Wayne Dayberry, expressed concern over the growing trend of layoffs in the video game industry, despite companies continuing to generate substantial profits. Dayberry noted that union representation can provide greater transparency and layoff protections through collective bargaining, emphasizing the need for video game workers to join the union to establish better industry standards and protect against exploitation. This development follows Microsoft's confirmation in 2023 that it would uphold its labor neutrality agreement with the CWA after acquiring Activision Blizzard.
