Valve Requests Removal of Unofficial Nintendo 64 Portal Version

Following its release last week, the creator of the Nintendo 64 adaptation of Portal has been asked by Valve to discontinue the project. James Lambert, the developer behind the game, had been working on it since 2022 and initially made it available, but was subsequently contacted by Valve. According to Lambert, Valve requested the removal of the game due to its reliance on proprietary Nintendo libraries. In a Patreon update, Lambert explained that he was asked to take down the project, which he believes is because Valve wants to avoid any potential entanglements with Nintendo's intellectual property. Lambert expressed his desire to potentially continue the project, but would need to discuss the matter with Nintendo. He is considering switching to an open-source library, but only if he receives permission from Valve. However, he is hesitant to commit to this without knowing if it would be worthwhile, given the potential difficulties in distributing the game through Steam.
