Double Loop Games Announces Closure
After a four-year run, Double Loop Games has decided to cease operations. According to a report by Game Developer, co-founder Emily Greer revealed the news in a LinkedIn post. Greer expressed her pride in the team, the culture they built, and the games they developed, but noted that the studio struggled to gain traction in a highly competitive funding and marketing environment, particularly for mobile games. Most of the Double Loop team will be joining Scopely to work on a new project, although a few developers were not offered positions due to Scopely already having those roles filled. Greer and co-founder Shelby Moledina are taking time to consider their next career moves, but plan to attend the Game Developers Conference in March. Double Loop Games was founded in 2020 with the aim of creating mobile games for individuals who do not identify as gamers. The studio's approach was centered around understanding the needs and preferences of its target audience, recognizing that the term 'casual' player can be misleading, as many of these individuals spend significant amounts of time engaging with games.
