Debut Success: Dragon Quest Monsters Claims Top Spot in Japan Monthly Charts

In its inaugural month, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince dominated the Japanese market, selling 510,477 units after its release on December 1, as reported by Famitsu. Following closely, Super Mario Bros Wonder claimed the second position with 460,684 units sold, while Momotaro Dentetsu World, the previous month's top seller, secured third place with 382,671 copies. Notably, Pikmin 4 rebounded into the top five, selling 153,710 physical copies. The month saw three new titles enter the Japanese charts: an enhanced version of Final Fantasy 7 Remake at number 22 with 27,645 units, SpyxAnya: Operation Memories at 26 with 25,112 copies, and Baldur's Gate 3 at 24 with 25,916 units sold after its December 21 release. The Switch console led hardware sales with 435,340 units, predominantly the OLED model, followed by PS5 with 177,864 units and Xbox Series S and X with 7,336 units. In terms of physical game sales, Nintendo held a 39.9% market share, trailed by Square Enix at 16.1% and Konami at 12%.
