Esports Wales Secures £50,000 Funding Boost
A significant investment of up to £50,000 has been awarded to Esports Wales through Media Cymru's Development Fund. According to reports by Esports Insider, Esports Wales is among 24 businesses and freelancers to receive funding, aimed at driving project development and innovation. The allocated funds will be utilized to further establish and support the national Welsh Esports League, launched last year, and official clubs nationwide. Media Cymru's total investment in this initiative amounts to £1 million, with the opportunity for businesses to apply for additional funding of up to £250,000 through its Scale Up Fund. Professor Justin Lewis, director of Media Cymru, expressed enthusiasm for the supported projects, citing innovative storytelling, novel business approaches, and pioneering technology applications. "Our goal is to collaborate with these projects, enabling them to create novel products, services, and experiences that enhance the social, cultural, and economic fabric of Wales' creative economy," he added. John Jackson, CEO of Esports Wales, stated: "The investment from Media Cymru is a significant milestone for us, allowing Esports Wales to advance and foster a more professional, sustainable industry in Wales." Since its inception in 2018, Esports Wales has grown, becoming a full member of the European Esports Federation in 2023.
