UK Monthly Charts See December Growth with EA Sports FC 24 and PS5
The UK gaming industry experienced a 2% increase in sales during December, with 6.9 million physical and digital games sold, according to GSD data which tracks both physical and digital sales from major publishers. Despite a lack of major new releases in November and December, the results are promising. EA Sports FC 24 regained the top spot, boosted by pre-Christmas sales. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 fell to second place, while Hogwarts Legacy and Super Mario Bros Wonder saw significant sales jumps, making December the strongest month for the new Mario game since its October release. Ubisoft's Avatar Frontiers of Pandora debuted at number eight. Console sales reached nearly 500,000 units, a 2% increase over November and 7% over the same period last year, with PS5 leading, followed by Nintendo Switch, which saw a 39% sales spike, and Xbox Series S and X. The accessories market also saw a substantial 63% increase, with controllers dominating the charts, led by the White and Midnight Black DualSense controllers. Strong PS4 sales brought the DualShock 4 back into the top ten at number seven.
