Frogwares Takes Over as Publisher of The Sinking City

Frogwares has officially announced that it has assumed full publishing rights for The Sinking City, and will be responsible for releasing the game across all platforms. In a statement released on social media, the developer expressed relief that the issue has been resolved, stating, "We're thrilled to have this matter behind us, and we're looking forward to sharing more updates on the future of the franchise soon." The company also noted that existing game saves will not be compatible with the latest version of The Sinking City on Steam and the Epic Games Store, and players will have the option to play through their current version of the game until February 28. The resolution comes after a prolonged dispute between Frogwares and Nacon, which began in 2020 when Frogwares accused Nacon of withholding €1 million in royalties and claiming IP rights to the game. The dispute escalated in March 2021, when Frogwares issued a DMCA takedown notice to remove the game from Steam, citing that the version available for purchase was not the one developed by the studio. Frogwares alleged that Nacon had pirated the game from another digital store to sell it on Steam, while Nacon released a statement, which is now deleted, claiming that the allegations were unjust and that it was the sole exclusive distributor of the game on Steam.
