Versus Evil Ceases Operations
In a social media announcement, Versus Evil revealed that it is closing down after a decade in business. The company expressed its gratitude to its community, stating, "Today is a difficult day. After 10 incredible years, Versus Evil is shutting down. We're proud to have brought you the best indie games and shared countless happy memories with you, our wonderful community! From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for everything." The head of production, Lance James, also confirmed that the entire team has been let go. Established in 2013, Versus Evil was acquired by TinyBuild, along with its QA studio Red Cerberus, in 2021. Recently, TinyBuild announced that it would fall short of its revenue projections. Around the same time, TinyBuild revealed that it had reached a settlement in a legal dispute with Versus Evil's former owner, Stall Proof LLC, as well as its general manager, Steve Escalante, and head of production, James. The dispute centered on allegations that TinyBuild had failed to fulfill its obligations under the purchase agreement, including the release of promised funds and provision of material support. TinyBuild paid $3.5 million and covered legal costs to settle the claims. Following the settlement, Escalante announced his departure from the company. Some of Versus Evil's notable projects include The Banner Saga, Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire, Mothergunship, Stray Souls, and Unmetal.
