Microsoft Discontinues Windows Mixed Reality

Microsoft has announced that it will be phasing out Windows Mixed Reality in an upcoming operating system update, affecting the Mixed Reality Portal app, Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR, and Steam VR Beta. Initially launched in 2017 as part of a Windows 10 update, Mixed Reality was designed as a platform for hosting various virtual reality experiences, including games and apps. The company has also developed several mixed reality headsets, such as the HoloLens and HoloLens 2, in addition to collaborating on the HP Reverb G2. The move to discontinue Mixed Reality comes after the company reportedly abandoned plans for a HoloLens 3 last year, citing a lack of unified strategy that hindered the mixed reality team's efforts.
