Newzoo Stands by 2023 Gaming Market Value Estimate of $184 Billion

Newzoo's annual review has reaffirmed its prediction for the 2023 gaming market to reach $184 billion. previously, in October, the firm had revised its forecast downward, anticipating a modest growth of 0.6%, citing difficulties in the mobile gaming sector. At the start of the year, Newzoo had projected that the global gaming market would experience a 2.6% increase to $187 billion in 2023. Projections for revenue from PC, console, and mobile segments have remained unchanged, with mobile expected to account for nearly half of the global gaming market, generating $90.4 billion in 2023 – a 1.6% decrease from the previous year. Meanwhile, Newzoo predicts that the global number of gamers will reach 3.38 billion in 2023, marking a 6.3% increase. Among the top 10 highest-grossing PC and console games in the US and UK from January to October, NBA 2K24 took the top spot, driven by premium and recurring revenue, followed by Hogwarts Legacy and Diablo 4. During the first quarter of 2023, Hogwarts Legacy was the best-selling game across PC and consoles in the US and UK. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom ranked fourth, while Baldur's Gate 3 secured the seventh spot as the only game in the top 10 released by an independent studio. Looking ahead, Newzoo has maintained its 2026 forecast, expecting the global gaming market to generate $205.7 billion, with the global player base predicted to reach 3.79 billion.
