Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick to Step Down Next Week

After over three decades at the helm, Bobby Kotick will relinquish his position as CEO of Activision Blizzard on December 29. In a statement to employees, Kotick expressed his pride in the company's achievements and the people who have contributed to its success. He has confidence in the company's future under Microsoft's ownership. According to Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer, the current leadership structure will remain in place, but some changes will occur at the executive level. Several key executives, including Thomas Tippl, Brian Bullatao, Julie Hodges, Grant Dixon, and Armin Zerza, will stay on until March to ensure a smooth transition. Others, such as Humam Sakhnini and Lulu Cheng Meservey, will depart by the end of December and January, respectively. Kotick's tenure has been marked by controversy, including calls for his removal in 2019 and allegations of fostering a culture of harassment and discrimination. His departure was anticipated following Microsoft's acquisition announcement in January 2022, with reports suggesting he would receive a $390 million payout.
