Australian Gaming Industry Generates AU$345.5 Million in Revenue

Australia's gaming market has achieved a significant revenue of AU$345.5 million, marking a 21% increase from the previous year. This data is based on the latest Australian Game Developer Survey conducted by the Interactive Games and Entertainment Association (IGEA). The survey also indicates that the Australian gaming industry currently employs approximately 2,458 people, representing a 17% year-on-year growth. In terms of gender distribution, the sector comprises 69% males, 26% females, and 5% individuals identifying as transgender, non-binary, or gender diverse. Notably, 79% of game development studios in the country have fewer than 20 staff members. Furthermore, 49% of these studios receive government funding, while 19% of their income and investments come from international sources. According to IGEA CEO Ron Curry, "Ongoing government support is crucial for the success of our industry. With this support, we can expect our newer studios to mature, much like the 32% of Australian studios that have been in operation for 10 years or more. In fact, 63% of studios are planning to hire new staff this financial year, which will create over 200 new job opportunities."
