Materia Music Takes Over Boss Battle Records, a Renowned Video Game Record Label

Materia Music, a leading publisher of video game soundtracks, has successfully acquired Boss Battle Records, a prominent Australian record label that specializes in supporting composers and artists in the gaming industry. Founded by Fabian Malabello in 2017, Boss Battle Records has collaborated with talented individuals whose work has been featured in iconic games such as Star Wars, Metal Gear Solid, Honor of Kings, Pac-Man, and Apex Legends. The acquisition talks between Materia Music and Boss Battle Records commenced in 2019. As a result of this acquisition, Materia Music, which is based in Seattle, plans to expand Boss Battle Records' catalog by releasing their music on physical media and merchandise in the upcoming year. According to Sebastian Wolff, the founder and CEO of Materia Music, 'This acquisition is a significant step forward, not only for our artists but also for the growth and development of the video game music industry in Australia and New Zealand.' Wolff further stated, 'We view this acquisition as the first phase of our expansion plan, which aims to create new opportunities for video game composers and publishers in Australia.' The roster of composers at Boss Battle Records includes Kevin Penkin, who is known for his work on notable projects such as Star Wars: Visions and Pokémon: Paldean Winds. Penkin expressed his enthusiasm for the acquisition, stating, 'I have had the pleasure of working with Boss Battle Records for many years, and I have always admired their passion for video game soundtracks and their dedication to promoting local talent globally.' He added, 'It is exciting to see Materia Music share this vision and take the reins to further Boss Battle Records' legacy, paving the way for a bright future for Australian soundtracks to gain international recognition.'
