Chinese Gaming Market Sees Significant 13% Revenue Increase
China's video game market experienced a substantial expansion, reaching $42.6 billion in 2023, representing a 13% year-over-year increase. According to Reuters, the domestic gaming revenue saw a 15% rise to $36 billion, accounting for 85% of the country's total video game earnings. However, overseas game revenue from China decreased by 6% due to heightened national security concerns in various countries. Despite this, Chinese titles still generated $6.6 billion in international revenue, with anime-style games like MiHoYo's Genshin Impact witnessing a 31% year-over-year increase to $4.3 billion. In terms of international market share, the US dominated with 32.5% of Chinese mobile game sales, followed by Japan at 19%, as reported by China Xinhua News. Recently, Meta partnered with Tencent, making the latter the exclusive distributor of Meta headsets in China.
