Asia and MENA to Spend $78.5 Billion on In-Game Purchases by 2023, Reports Niko Partners
According to a recent study by Niko Partners, in-game purchases will account for 87.8% of the $89.4 billion gaming market in Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa. The total spend on in-app purchases is projected to be $78.5 billion, with $7.8 billion attributed to premium games and $3.1 billion to subscription services. The survey found that 62.3% of respondents purchased premium games in the past year, with a third using subscription services to access games. This figure rises to 51% when including broader subscription platforms like Prime Gaming. However, high retail prices have deterred non-spending players from buying premium titles, with 39.3% of mobile gamers and 44.3% of PC gamers citing it as their main concern. Furthermore, 30% of mobile gamers expressed discontent with in-game advertising. Niko Partners' CEO, Lisa Hanson, emphasized the importance of innovative monetization strategies to engage gamers and ensure long-term game success, stating that a game's revenue potential may depend on adapting local monetization models to the target market.
