Rovio Shuts Down Montreal-Based Studio Lumi

Following its acquisition by Sega, Rovio has made the decision to close Studio Lumi, resulting in the loss of 16 jobs and the cessation of work on an unannounced project. Key personnel, including Senior Vice President of Brand Strategy Ben Mattes, will retain their positions. As one of Rovio's two Montreal-based studios, Studio Lumi focused on developing console and PC games. In a statement, Rovio explained that the decision aligns with the company's strategy to concentrate on its core mobile strengths. The firm also expressed appreciation for the team's hard work and dedication, citing the recent acquisition by Sega as an opportunity to leverage the latter's expertise and expand the Angry Birds brand beyond mobile platforms.
