Twitch to Discontinue Services in South Korea by 2024

Twitch has announced plans to discontinue its operations in South Korea, effective February 27, 2024, due to excessively high operational expenses. In a recent blog post, CEO Dan Clancy revealed that despite efforts to reduce costs, such as downgrading stream quality to 720p, the company's network fees in Korea remain substantially higher than in other countries. As a result, Twitch has deemed it unsustainable to continue operating in the region. To support affected streamers, the platform aims to facilitate a transition to alternative live streaming services, with ongoing discussions to ensure a smooth handover. Clancy expressed regret over the decision, acknowledging the significant role Korea plays in the global esports community and the value of the communities built on Twitch.
