Introducing the Game Content Triggers Database: A New Resource for Mental Health Awareness

The founder of Can I Play That?, Coty Craven, along with a team of gaming experts and mental health specialists, has launched the Game Content Triggers Database. This comprehensive database acts as a repository of potentially distressing content found in games. Users can now access information about specific games, such as the presence of spiders or racist themes targeting particular communities. Additionally, the database indicates whether it's possible to avoid such trigger content while playing. According to the creators, "the database was developed by a dedicated group of gaming industry professionals and mental health experts to catalog common themes, objects, and visual effects in games that may have a negative impact on mental health." "Our initial launch includes 263 distinct trigger tags and a collection of 30 popular games available on Xbox and PlayStation, with more titles for PC and Switch to be added soon." Currently, the database features 38 games, with Craven and the team planning to expand its catalog over time.
