BAFTA Unveils 2023 Breakthrough Cohort

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has announced its 2023 Breakthrough participants, comprising 42 talented individuals from the UK, US, and India, including six rising stars in the gaming industry. These creatives will receive expert guidance and access to a global network, courtesy of BAFTA and supported by Netflix. A jury of industry professionals, led by the BAFTA sector committee, selected this year's cohort. The gaming representatives include Holly Reddaway, lead voice director at Bandai Namco; Joel Beardshaw and Michael Anderson, lead designer and producer of Desta: The Memories Between; Samantha Béart, performer in The Excavation of Hob's Barrow; Kitt Burn, 2D artist and game designer for Gibbon: Beyond the Trees; and Cheyenne Pualani Morrin, senior games writer for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. According to BAFTA CEO Jane Millichip, "This year's cohort is truly impressive, with credits in high-end TV dramas, debut films, documentaries, and game design. BAFTA Breakthrough aims to build on this early success, fostering lifelong, fulfilling careers. Congratulations to our 2023 Breakthrough talents." Launched in 2020, BAFTA Breakthrough celebrates its tenth anniversary, building on the organization's Breakthrough Brits initiative, which began in 2013.
