Creative Assembly Shifts Focus to Real-Time Strategy Games After Hyenas Cancellation
With the cancellation of the online first-person shooter Hyenas, Creative Assembly is set to concentrate on developing real-time strategy games once again. This decision was disclosed by Sega's Chief Financial Officer and Senior Executive Vice President, Koichi Fukazawa, in the company's latest financial results presentation. Fukazawa stated, "Creative Assembly excelled at developing offline real-time strategy games, but they undertook the challenge of developing Hyenas, an online first-person shooter. Although the game was well-made, we decided to cancel its development because we were unsure it would meet the quality standards our users expect, particularly in terms of its long-term viability as a competitive online game." The Total War series, developed by Creative Assembly, has achieved significant success with 43.4 million units sold and downloaded since its debut in 2000. In September, it was reported that the cancellation of Hyenas was a result of Sega's structural reforms.
