Lawsuit Filed Against Take-Two Interactive Over Non-Transferable Virtual Currency

Take-Two Interactive and its subsidiary 2K Games are embroiled in a class action lawsuit, with allegations of theft and deceptive business practices stemming from the non-transferable nature of virtual currency in their games. The lawsuit, filed in a California federal court, claims that when servers for older games are shut down, players lose their virtual currency without warning or compensation. The complaint specifically mentions NBA 2K, WWE 2K, and PGA Tour 2K, and argues that the company fails to provide a rationale for not allowing refunds or transfers of in-game funds. The plaintiff, a minor, is seeking both monetary and non-monetary relief for themselves and others affected. This is not the first time Take-Two Interactive has faced a class action lawsuit, as a similar suit was filed last year regarding the use of loot boxes in NBA 2K games, which allegedly manipulated players into spending more money.
