ByteDance Announces Withdrawal from Gaming Sector Following Nuverse Restructuring

According to reports, ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, is planning to exit the gaming industry as part of a broader restructuring effort. The decision was made after a thorough review of the company's businesses, with a focus on long-term strategic growth areas. A spokesperson stated, 'We regularly assess our operations and make necessary adjustments to prioritize areas that drive long-term growth.' As a result, the company's gaming division, Nuverse, will undergo significant changes. Sources indicate that ByteDance will not re-enter the gaming market and that development of upcoming games will be halted by December. Meanwhile, existing titles such as Marvel Snap, One Piece: The Voyage, and Crystal of Atland will be divested. However, casual game developer Ohayoo, which creates content for TikTok's Chinese counterpart Douyin, is expected to remain unaffected. The Nuverse gaming arm was established in 2021, comprising developers like Moonton Technology, C4games, and publisher Pixmain. Recent reports suggest that ByteDance has been exploring the sale of Moonton. Over the past few years, the company has been scaling back its gaming operations, including two rounds of layoffs in 2022.
