ReedPop Considers Selling Off Key Gaming Media Brands
ReedPop has announced that it is exploring the possibility of selling its Gamer Network division. This UK-based subsidiary comprises several prominent gaming media outlets, including GamesIndustry.biz, Eurogamer, Rock Paper Shotgun, VG247, and Dicebreaker, as well as stakes in Outside Xbox, Digital Foundry, and Hookshot. However, the sale will not affect ReedPop's UK-based events, such as EGX and MCM, or its digital brand Popverse. The decision to investigate a potential sale comes after ReedPop acquired Gamer Network in 2018 as part of its strategy to establish a leading events and media group for the gaming community, which also includes major shows like PAX and New York Comic-Con. The COVID-19 pandemic led to significant disruptions in the events sector, prompting ReedPop to reassess its operations and ultimately decide that new ownership could provide the best opportunity for the Gamer Network business to grow. According to a statement, 'ReedPop, part of RX, has reviewed its UK business and decided to investigate the potential sale of its Gamer Network and associated editorial digital properties.' The company emphasized that this move would not impact its other UK properties, including MCM ComicCon, EGX, and Popverse.
