American Children Prioritize Gaming Subscriptions and Virtual Currency Over Physical Games This Holiday Season

The Entertainment Software Association's recent report reveals that 72% of American children are eager to receive gaming-related items for Christmas, with a notable preference for non-physical products. Among the over 500 surveyed youngsters aged 10 to 17, the majority plan to request gaming gifts for the holidays. The most sought-after gifts are subscriptions, with 39% of the vote, closely followed by consoles at 38%, gaming accessories at 32%, and in-game currency at 29%. In a surprising turn, only 22% of the surveyed children expressed a desire for physical games. The ESA also polled over 500 adults, finding that one in three intend to purchase video games for themselves or others, with 57% of parents considering gaming gifts for their kids. Gaming products topped the wish lists, surpassing other popular gift ideas like money, gift cards, and technology. Notably, books ranked the lowest at 26%. According to ESA president and CEO Stanley Pierre-Louis, 'With over 212 million regular gamers in the US, it's no surprise that gaming tops this year's wish lists.' He added, 'Whether it's a new console, updated controllers and headsets, or expanded game libraries, gaming is an excellent way for families to bond and connect during the holidays and beyond.'
