Majority of Fortnite Restricted Content Rendered Unusable in Creative Maps Rated for Ages Ten and Above

The introduction of Fortnite's age-restricted content system has significantly limited the use of cosmetics in creative maps designed for players aged ten and above. According to Paul Tassi, a contributor to Forbes, the new system has led to the arbitrary classification of skins and cosmetics, with some items from R-rated and MA-rated movies, TV shows, or video games being exempt from the ban due to not featuring guns or being sufficiently spooky. In response to the issue, Epic Games provided clarification on the content restrictions and their intentions to resolve the matter via a social media statement. The company revealed that approximately 7% of Fortnite outfits are currently restricted to islands rated Teen, but plans to make most of these outfits compatible with all ratings over the next year by implementing an auto-adjust feature based on the island's rating. Following an update, Epic Games announced that it would be disabling cosmetic gating for the majority of Fortnite cosmetics until a long-term solution is found, with the change set to roll out with the v28.00 update on December 3, 2023. The company acknowledged being overly cautious in its initial review of cosmetics and their potential impact on island ratings, and is now reassessing all cosmetics.
