Savage Game Studios Reborn as Neon Koi Under Sony's Wing

In a significant move, Sony's mobile game development arm, formerly known as Savage Game Studios, has unveiled its new identity as Neon Koi. This rebranding comes on the heels of several high-profile executive departures, including co-founder Michail Katkoff in July, and general manager Sophie Vo in September, who has since pursued other ventures and consultancy work. The studio's head of technology, Mike McManus, and game director and co-founder, Nadjim Adjir, have taken on leadership roles. As stated on LinkedIn, "After careful consideration and reflection on our core values, mission, and remarkable growth, we have chosen to adopt a new identity that more accurately reflects our future aspirations." The Neon Koi moniker is said to embody the studio's culture and the essence of its game projects. This transformation also follows the departure of Nicola Sebastiani, the former vice president and head of mobile for the PlayStation Studios mobile division, who left in June. Sony acquired Savage Game Studios in 2022, marking a strategic expansion into the mobile gaming sector, which operates independently of the company's console business.
