PlayStation Portal Sells Out Within 48 Hours of Launch

Following its launch on November 15, the PlayStation Portal has quickly sold out in both the UK and US markets. According to Eurogamer, it appears that some units may have been stockpiled by scalpers, as evidenced by inflated listings on Ebay, ranging from £200 to over £300, despite the device's £199 retail price. The PlayStation Direct stores in the UK and US have indicated that the Portal is currently out of stock, with the UK store suggesting a check-back date of November 22 for further updates and the US store anticipating a restock update in early December. Initially unveiled by Sony earlier this year, the PlayStation Portal is a Wi-Fi enabled remote device designed to allow PlayStation 5 owners to play games without the need for a TV screen. As outlined in its second-quarter financial report, Sony had hoped that the introduction of the PlayStation Portal would help boost hardware sales over the holiday period.
