Sega of America Faces Allegations of Anti-Union Tactics

Allegations have emerged that Sega of America attempted to intimidate its workforce by threatening mass layoffs in response to their unionization endeavors. The Communications Workers of America, on behalf of the Allied Employees Guild Improving Sega, has filed a complaint of unfair labor practices after Sega allegedly unveiled plans to gradually eliminate temporary positions by February 2024 and relocate roles to Europe and Japan. According to Elise Willacker, a QA tester and member of the union, this move would impact approximately 80 individuals within the bargaining unit. Willacker expressed disappointment, stating that Sega's actions demonstrate a clear lack of good faith in bargaining and a disregard for the significant contributions of temporary employees. The union is calling for Sega to convert all temporary positions to permanent ones and return to negotiations with integrity. Sega has been contacted for a statement. This development comes after Sega of America employees successfully voted to form a union earlier this year, comprising over 200 staff members from various departments.
