Super Mario Bros. Wonder Dominates Japan's Monthly Sales Charts

According to Famitsu's latest physical sales report for October, Super Mario Bros. Wonder has taken the top spot in its first month of release, with estimated sales of over 801,000 copies. This figure far surpasses the 110,000 copies sold of Detective Pikachu Returns, which secured the second position. The PS5-exclusive Spider-Man 2 follows closely, with around 90,000 copies sold, while Pikmin 4 has been pushed to fourth place with estimated sales of 66,000 copies in its fourth month on the market. The Top 10 list features seven new releases, contributing to a 25% year-over-year increase in software sales, which reached ¥13.7 billion ($91 million). In terms of hardware, the Switch OLED model was the best-selling console, accounting for nearly 60% of all console sales. The PS5 trailed behind, with almost 22% of console sales. Although hardware unit sales were at their lowest point in six months, they showed a 15% year-over-year increase, reaching ¥17.3 billion ($115 million). Overall, the console market saw a 19% increase in spending, totaling ¥31 billion ($206 million). The top 10 best-selling physical games in Japan from September 25 to October 29, 2023, are ranked according to Famitsu's data.
