Next-Gen Steam Deck to Offer Significant Upgrade as Original Model Reaches Multi-Million Sales

Valve has reaffirmed its dedication to the Steam Deck, with plans to launch a next-generation model that will represent a substantial leap forward. The company is set to release an OLED version of the handheld PC, demonstrating its commitment to continuous improvement. According to hardware designer Yazan Aldehayyat, Valve has achieved its goals with previous hardware initiatives, but the Steam Deck is a different story. "We believe a Steam Deck 2 is necessary, and we have a clear roadmap ahead of us," he stated. With the original Steam Deck having sold "multiple millions" of units, despite only 1% of Steam users owning the device, Valve is "very happy" with its performance. The company is now focusing on developing a more powerful Steam Deck 2, which will require more suitable chips. Designer Lawrence Yang noted that the ideal components are not yet available, but the company is confident that a suitable device will be launched within the next two to three years, with Yang describing the upcoming OLED model as the "definitive first-generation Steam Deck."
