Uppercut Scales Down Operations

A key voice in the indie gaming media landscape is set to diminish significantly, as Uppercut's editor-in-chief, Ty Galiz-Rowe, has announced that the site will be discontinuing its Patreon and halting regular content publication. According to Galiz-Rowe, "Despite my passion for this work and my desire to continue, I am exhausted, disillusioned, and severely understaffed and underfunded. For my own well-being, I must step away for the time being." Although the site will remain active for now, Uppercut will no longer accept pitches by the end of the month and for the foreseeable future. Galiz-Rowe hinted at the possibility of occasional posts and revealed that the Indie Mixtape podcast will continue, albeit in a new location. In a statement, Galiz-Rowe expressed gratitude to supporters and encouraged them to back other small gaming sites, such as Into the Spine, Start Menu, DEEPHELL, and no escape. This development marks another challenging year for gaming media, with numerous publications experiencing layoffs and closures, including EGM Now, Waypoint, and the Washington Post's Launcher section.
