Redundancies Affect Kotaku Staff Amidst Company-Wide Layoffs
G/O Media has undertaken a company-wide restructuring effort, impacting its various publications, including the gaming website Kotaku. According to a report by Adweek, this move has led to 23 job losses across G/O Media's sites and the closure of Jezebel, a women's culture outlet, after 16 years in operation. G/O Media's CEO, Jim Spanfeller, announced the decision to staff earlier, although the exact number of affected Kotaku employees remains undisclosed. In a memo, Spanfeller stated, "Despite being a lean and agile organization, G/O Media is not shielded from the economic challenges affecting our business." Furthermore, Adweek reported that G/O Media's editorial director, Merrill Brown, was let go just days prior to the latest round of layoffs, having been appointed in January of this year. The news of these layoffs follows the recent appointment of Jen Glennon as Kotaku's new editor-in-chief.
