Warner Bros to Diversify Gaming Portfolio with Live Service and Free-to-Play Models
Warner Bros Discovery has announced a 2% year-over-year increase in Q3 revenue, reaching $10 billion. The company plans to expand its gaming IPs into live service and free-to-play offerings, as stated by CEO David Zaslav during the earnings call. Zaslav emphasized the goal of transforming major franchises into 'always-on' experiences with multi-platform and free-to-play extensions, aiming to increase player engagement and monetization. The recent release of Mortal Kombat 1 has sold almost 3 million units, while Hogwarts Legacy continues to perform well, having previously sold 15 million units and generated $1 billion in revenue. Zaslav highlighted the importance of gaming to the company, referring to it as a 'critical and valuable asset'.
