Sony Postpones Release of Six Live Service Games
Instead of the initially planned 12 live service titles, Sony will now launch only six by March 2026. This adjustment was confirmed by Hiroki Totoki, Sony's COO and CFO, during the company's Q2 earnings call, as reported by Seeking Alpha. The reason behind this change is attributed to concerns over the quality of the games. Totoki emphasized that the company's long-term goal remains unchanged, prioritizing the development of high-quality live service games. "Our policy hasn't changed; we still want to push forward with these services, but game quality must come first," Totoki stated. Among the live service titles currently in development are multiplayer games based on The Last of Us and Horizon franchises, as well as an original IP from PlayStation's London Studio. Notably, the development of The Last of Us multiplayer project was scaled back earlier this year following an evaluation by Bungie, a Sony subsidiary. This move comes after Sony's acquisition of Bungie and Haven Studios last year, aimed at enhancing its capabilities in creating live service games.
