The Game Developer Association of India (GDAI) has unveiled the first batch of participants for its newly launched Supernova incubation initiative, naming fifteen studios out of a pool of more than 260 applications. This marks a significant milestone for the Indian gaming ecosystem, as the association seeks to nurture early‑stage developers and accelerate their path to market readiness.
The Supernova program, which kicked off in July 2026, is structured as a three‑month intensive mentorship and support cycle. Chosen studios receive a combination of hands‑on guidance from seasoned industry veterans, access to valuable technology credits, and curated introductions to potential investors and publishing partners. At the conclusion of the incubation period, the cohort will showcase its progress and prototypes at a dedicated Demo Day held during this year’s India Game Developers Conference (IGDC), providing a high‑visibility platform for networking and deal‑making.
Key partners in the initiative include global gaming heavyweight Tencent, the Indian distribution platform Indus Appstore, as well as IVIPRO, SpielFabrique, Mintegral and Lakshya Digital. Indus Appstore has committed to offering participating studios priority onboarding and a bundle of advertising credits designed to jump‑start user‑acquisition campaigns.
This blend of financial incentives and strategic support is intended to reduce the typical barriers that nascent studios face when trying to attract and retain a player base. "The selection of this inaugural cohort marks the beginning of a focused journey for these 15 studios," explained Rajan Navani, a board member and chair of GDAI’s Incubation Sub‑Committee.
"Over the next three months, Supernova will bring together mentors, technology partners, publishers and investors to help each studio address its specific development and business priorities." Navani emphasized that the program is not a one‑size‑fits‑all solution; instead, each studio will receive a tailored roadmap that aligns with its unique game concept, target audience, and monetisation strategy. The fifteen studios that earned a spot in the program are: - Absurd Games - Team Quasar - AbhiTech Games - Konkan Coast Studios - Dunali Games - Chitrakala Interactive - Ashdev Studios - Compiling Shaders - Brahman Studios - Yaari Games - Funwave Studio - Arcadon Games - Shivaansh Artvision - AnonVision Creative Labs - Parkince These developers represent a diverse cross‑section of the Indian gaming landscape, ranging from mobile‑first creators to teams focused on PC and console experiences. Many of them have demonstrated strong creative visions but have yet to secure significant revenue streams, making the Supernova incubator an ideal springboard for scaling their operations.
Beyond the immediate benefits for the selected studios, GDAI’s broader mission with Supernova is to strengthen the overall talent pipeline in India. The association currently represents more than 200 member studios and is actively involved in talent development, international outreach, and policy advocacy.
By providing a structured environment where emerging developers can learn from established players, GDAI hopes to foster a sustainable ecosystem that can compete on the global stage. The program also aligns with GDAI’s educational objectives. The association aims to reach over 25,000 students across the country through workshops, webinars, and curriculum partnerships, ensuring that the next generation of game designers, programmers, and artists has access to industry‑relevant training.
Supernova serves as a practical extension of these efforts, offering real‑world case studies and mentorship that complement classroom learning. Looking ahead, the success of the first cohort will be measured not only by the quality of the games presented at IGDC’s Demo Day but also by the longer‑term outcomes for each studio. Metrics such as follow‑on funding, publishing deals, user‑acquisition performance, and revenue growth will be tracked to assess the incubator’s impact. GDAI plans to iterate on the program design based on these results, potentially expanding the cohort size, extending the mentorship period, or introducing new partnership opportunities with additional technology providers.
In summary, the launch of the Supernova incubation program represents a concerted effort by the Game Developer Association of India to catalyse growth for early‑stage studios. By leveraging the expertise and resources of partners like Tencent and Indus Appstore, and by offering a blend of mentorship, financial credits, and investor access, the initiative aims to turn promising concepts into commercially viable games.
The fifteen selected studios now embark on a three‑month journey that could redefine their trajectories and contribute to a more vibrant, internationally competitive Indian gaming industry.
