Announcing the 2023 Canada GamesIndustry.biz Best Places To Work Award Winners

The wait is over, and we are pleased to announce the winners of the 2023 Canada GamesIndustry.biz Best Places To Work Awards. These awards aim to make the games industry a better workplace, with winners determined by a comprehensive employee survey. Nearly 50 Canadian games companies participated, resulting in 15 winners. Electronic Arts emerged as the biggest winner, with three teams receiving awards: Cliffhanger Games, Ripple Effect, and Maxis. All winning companies can proudly display the coveted Best Places To Work Awards badge. The winners are categorized into three groups: small companies (10-50 staff) - A Shell in the Pit, Alpha Channel Inc, Borealys Games, Brass Lion Entertainment, Chasing Rats Games, Lowbirth Games, Lucid Dreams Studio, and Trebuchet; mid-sized companies (50-200 employees) - Compulsion Games, Full Circle, Frima Studio, Timbre Games, and Yellow Brick Games; and large companies (200+ employees) - Behaviour Interactive and Eidos-Montréal. Each participant underwent a rigorous judging process, which included an employer form assessing pay, holiday, benefits, social activities, and more (20% of the final score) and an employee survey covering topics like working environment, work-life balance, management, diversity, and more (80% of the final score). Additional checks were performed to identify potential issues affecting a small number of employees, such as discrimination and crunch. All participants will receive a basic report highlighting their scores to identify areas for improvement, and participation in the awards is entirely free. This year's Canada winners follow the US awards last month and the UK awards in September.
