According to Embark Studios, the developer behind The Finals, the game incorporates both pre-recorded voice lines and AI-generated audio through text-to-speech technology. This revelation comes in response to criticism from voice actors and game developers regarding the studio's decision to utilize AI in its upcoming title. A representative from Embark Studios stated, "Our approach involves blending recorded voice audio with AI-generated audio, selecting the best option based on the specific context." The studio emphasized that capturing real-life interactions between actors, which fosters character chemistry and conflict, can add a layer of depth to their virtual worlds that current technology cannot replicate. Embark Studios stressed that eliminating the need for human actors is not a primary objective. The issue of protecting against unregulated AI use in the gaming industry is a topic of discussion for SAG-AFTRA. Previously, scheduled negotiations between the union and ten major gaming companies in September ended without a mutually acceptable agreement.
