Myth of Empires Copyright Dispute Resolved, Paving Way for Re-Release

A lengthy two-year legal battle between Studio Wildcard, its parent company Snail Games, and Angela Game has come to an end. The dispute centered around allegations that Angela Game had misappropriated the source code of Ark: Survival Evolved to develop its own MMO, Myth of Empires. In a joint statement, the companies announced that the dispute has been settled, with Snail Games set to collaborate with Angela Game on the re-release of Myth of Empires on PC and other platforms. The controversy began in 2021 when Studio Wildcard and Snail Games claimed that Angela Game had built Myth of Empires using the source code from Ark: Survival Evolved. Angela Game, founded by a former Snail Games China employee, saw its game removed from Steam in December 2021 following a DMCA filing by Studio Wildcard and Snail. The two companies subsequently took Angela to court over copyright infringement allegations. Although the terms of the settlement remain undisclosed, it has been confirmed that Snail Games will assist in distributing Myth of Empires on PC and future platforms, with Angela Game committing to pay ongoing royalty payments to Snail. Angela Game president Yi Ling Zhang expressed his company's regret over the difficulties caused to Snail's business, stating that the partnership would allow them to put their differences behind them and explore new opportunities. Studio Wildcard co-founder Doug Kennedy also welcomed the settlement, citing the potential for additional revenue streams through the partnership with Angela Game.
