Twitch Undertakes Further Staff Reductions

Twitch has implemented its second round of staff cuts this year. According to a report by Zach Bussey of Today Off Stream, the latest layoffs are substantially fewer than those in March, which affected over 400 employees. A source close to the matter informed GamesIndustry.biz that the current layoffs are confined to the customer experience department, as the company transitions to relying more heavily on outsourced vendors for these roles. The March layoffs were part of a broader plan by Amazon, Twitch's parent company, to reduce its workforce by 9,000 employees. At the time, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy stated, "Given the uncertain economy we are currently in, and the uncertainty that exists in the near future, we have chosen to be more streamlined in our costs and headcount."
