Epic Games Announces Significant Layoffs Affecting Over 800 Employees

Epic Games has confirmed that it will be reducing its workforce by approximately 830 employees, representing about 16% of the company's total staff. Additionally, around 250 employees will be leaving the company due to the sale of Bandcamp and the spin-off of SuperAwesome. According to Epic CEO Tim Sweeney, the company has been overspending and is now undergoing a transition to achieve financial sustainability. Sweeney stated that despite initial optimism, the company could not avoid layoffs. The sale of Bandcamp to Songtradr will allow the music storefront to continue operating as usual, while SuperAwesome's management team will acquire the division from Epic. The layoffs are primarily affecting teams outside of core game development, which may lead to delays in some products and initiatives. Epic will provide severance packages, including six months of pay and healthcare benefits, to all affected employees. The company is also adjusting its hiring and spending policies to achieve a more stable financial footing. In a recent update, it was revealed that Mediatonic, the developer of Fall Guys, has been impacted by the layoffs, although the exact number of affected employees has not been disclosed. Epic has assured that it will continue to invest in Fall Guys despite the restructuring.
