Sony Probes Alleged Ransomware Breach

Sony has confirmed it is looking into claims made by a ransomware group that it has successfully breached the company's systems, as initially reported by Cyber Security Connect. The group, known as Ransomed.vc, has taken responsibility for the alleged attack and is now offering the stolen data for sale, citing that Sony has declined to pay the ransom. The leaked data comprises approximately 6,000 files, including Java and HTML resources. This incident bears resemblance to the 2011 breach of Sony's PlayStation Network, which exposed 77 million user accounts and led to a prolonged service disruption, with some regions experiencing outages for up to 76 days. The aftermath of the 2011 breach included class-action lawsuits, ultimately resulting in a $15 million settlement.
