Hearthstone Team Faces Restructuring with Reported Layoffs

Activision Blizzard has confirmed layoffs within its Hearthstone development team, as reported by Kotaku's senior reporter Ethan Gach. According to Gach, approximately 10 team members were let go without prior notice as part of the company's restructuring efforts. A spokesperson for Activision Blizzard stated that 'organizational changes were made to the Hearthstone team, resulting in a small number of roles becoming redundant.' The company expressed gratitude to the affected employees for their contributions. Notably, a tools engineer with 18 years of experience was among those laid off. This development follows a strong quarterly earnings report, driven by the successful launch of Diablo 4, which saw Blizzard's revenue increase by 160% year-over-year. The recent layoffs also follow a series of cuts in Activision Blizzard's esports division in July, which resulted in the loss of 50 jobs, as well as a 'small QA restructuring' that affected a former employee with nearly 18 years of tenure.
