The integration of Speechly's technology is expected to significantly enhance Roblox's voice chat service, which was launched in 2021. Prior to the acquisition, Speechly had garnered support from Y Combinator and secured €2 million in seed funding in 2019, led by Cherry Ventures, as reported by TechCrunch. In a statement, Speechly co-founder Hannes Heikinheimo expressed enthusiasm about joining forces with a company committed to safety and civility, leveraging their AI expertise to transform traditional moderation methods and meet the unique demands of user-generated content platforms.
