Bayonetta Creator Hideki Kamiya Departs PlatinumGames
Renowned video game creator and director Hideki Kamiya, known for his work on iconic titles such as Bayonetta and The Wonderful 101, has announced his departure from PlatinumGames. As reported by VGC, Kamiya had been promoted to the position of vice president the previous year and will officially step down from this role on October 12. In a statement published on X, Kamiya expressed that his decision to leave was the result of extensive personal reflection, stating, "This decision was made after much contemplation, guided by my own principles, and was certainly not an easy choice to make." He continued, "However, I am convinced that this outcome is for the best. I will persist in creating in my own unique way, and I hope you will continue to follow my work with interest." Kamiya was a co-founder of PlatinumGames in 2006, alongside president and CEO Atsushi Inaba, former CEO Tatsuya Minami, and the esteemed game designer Shinji Mikami, following his departure from Capcom's Clover Studio. In response to Kamiya's decision to leave, PlatinumGames issued a statement on X, saying, "We are deeply grateful for the invaluable creative ideas, leadership, and contributions he has made to the growth and development of our studio since its inception. "We have every confidence that he will continue to excel in his future endeavors as a game creator. We look forward to seeing the positive impact he will have on the gaming industry and wish him all the best for his future endeavors." In 2020, PlatinumGames launched a new studio in Tokyo, with the goal of developing a sequel to Kamiya's Viewtiful Joe and The Wonderful 101, codenamed Project G.G., with Kamiya attached as the project's director.
