Beamdog Reduces Workforce by 26 Amid Restructuring
Beamdog, a Canadian game development studio, has reportedly let go of 26 employees, as confirmed by former staff members. This move is part of Embracer's broader restructuring effort, which began after Beamdog was acquired by Aspyr Media in 2022. Former employees, including Misia Bloniarz, have taken to LinkedIn to share news of the layoffs, which occurred last Friday. Bloniarz reflected on her time at the company, expressing gratitude and appreciation for the experience. Jill Hollett, a former associate graphic artist, also shared her sentiments, noting that the decision to release 26 employees was made as part of Embracer's restructuring initiative. Embracer announced plans to restructure earlier this year, citing a 'challenging year.' Beamdog is not alone in experiencing layoffs, as other studios, including Gearbox Publishing, have also been affected. The gaming industry has seen several shutdowns and layoffs in recent months, with Campfire Cabal and Volition Games being among the casualties.
