Starfield Achieves Fifth Largest Game Launch in Europe This Year
According to GSD data, Starfield secured the top spot across Europe during its launch week. The game, available on both Xbox and PC, emerged as the fastest-selling new intellectual property of the year and the fifth best-selling game overall. Its launch sales surpassed those of Final Fantasy 16 and Resident Evil 4, although they fell short of Hogwarts Legacy, Diablo IV, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Notably, Starfield's premium edition was available a week prior to the official launch, providing a head start in sales. Additionally, as a day one release on Xbox Game Pass, these sales figures are not included in the data. Starfield narrowly outperformed Forza Horizon 5 as the largest Xbox launch this generation in Europe. Meanwhile, digital promotions for Titanfall 2 and Need for Speed: Heat propelled these titles back into the top ten, with Titanfall 2 also receiving bug fixes from developer Respawn. The GSD digital data encompasses sales from participating companies through platforms like Steam, Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, and Nintendo Eshop, featuring major companies such as Activision Blizzard, Bandai Namco, and Electronic Arts. This data covers sales in multiple European countries, including Austria, Belgium, and the United Kingdom, although it excludes sales from Nintendo and smaller studios. Physical data, on the other hand, includes all games sold in select European countries.
