US Gaming Revenue Sees 3% Increase to $4.2 Billion in August

The latest Circana report reveals that Madden NFL 24 has secured the top position in the August Top 20, but its success has been somewhat eclipsed by Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, which debuted in second place despite being available for only one day. Notably, Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon ranked as the 20th best-selling game of 2023 year-to-date after just a single day on the market. According to Circana's monthly US sales report, consumer spending on games increased by 3% year-over-year to $4.2 billion, driven by a 4% rise in content spending and a 12% surge in accessory sales. However, this growth was offset by a 13% year-over-year decline in hardware sales, which marks an improvement over the 19% drop seen in July. All major gaming systems experienced a decrease in sales year-over-year, but the PS5 maintained its position as the best-selling hardware platform in terms of both unit sales and dollar sales, followed by Xbox. Remnant 2 dropped from its top spot on console and PC to third place this month. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and Hogwarts Legacy each rose one position to round out the top five. On the mobile front, overall spending increased by 2.5% year-over-year, with Monopoly Go claiming the top spot and dethroning Royal Match. Sensor Tower's Sam Aune noted that the remainder of the list shows minor changes, such as Pokémon Go pushing Coin Master out of the top five, while Ebony climbed one rank to ninth place and Call of Duty: Mobile dropped out of the top ten. The puzzle game Homescapes surpassed fellow Playtrix game Township to take the tenth spot, making Playrix the only publisher with two games in the top ten list, and four in the top fifteen. Activision Blizzard now has only one game in the top ten, Candy Crush Saga, as Call of Duty: Mobile fell out of the top ten.
