Ascendant Studios Reduces Workforce by Approximately 45%

Ascendant Studios, a California-based game development company, has confirmed that it has undergone a significant restructuring, resulting in the loss of around 45% of its staff. The decision, announced by CEO Bret Robbins, was described as a 'tough but necessary' move. This development comes just three weeks after the release of the studio's debut title, Immortals of Aveum. According to reports, approximately 40 employees lost their jobs, with the studio having employed over 100 people as of April 2023. Sources close to the matter have revealed that poor sales of Immortals of Aveum were a primary factor in the decision to downsize. Furthermore, it has been reported that additional staff members were let go in the lead-up to the official announcement. Despite this setback, Ascendant Studios has pledged to continue supporting Immortals of Aveum with future updates and content. CEO Bret Robbins expressed his gratitude to the affected employees, acknowledging the challenges of the decision and reaffirming the studio's commitment to those who remain. Robbins also expressed pride in the team's accomplishments, highlighting the rarity of establishing a new AAA studio and creating a new IP in the current gaming landscape.
