Unity Shuts Down Offices Following Credible Death Threat

In response to a serious death threat, Unity has temporarily closed its offices in San Francisco and Austin, as reported by Bloomberg. A company spokesperson confirmed that Unity was informed of a potential threat to its offices and is fully cooperating with law enforcement to investigate the matter. This development comes on the heels of intense backlash against Unity following the introduction of a new runtime fee, which would charge developers for each game installation on a device once certain revenue and installation thresholds are met. The move sparked widespread criticism from developers, who expressed concerns over the fee's legitimacy, its application to previously released games, and the methodology used to determine installations. Many developers took to social media to voice their discontent, with some stating that the decision would lead them to discontinue their partnership with Unity. An internal town hall meeting scheduled for Unity CEO John Riccitiello was cancelled due to the threat.
