UK Games Fund Receives £5m Boost to Support Game Developers
A £5 million injection of funds has been allocated to the UK Games Fund, enabling the launch of the UKGF Content Fund. As of now, game development studios can submit applications for funding to support their projects over the next 18 months, with grants ranging from £50,000 to £150,000. Since its inception in 2015, the UKGF has invested over £8 million in the UK gaming sector. This additional investment brings the total to £13.4 million, which will be invested in studios between 2022 and 2025. The UKGF will continue to provide grants of up to £30,000 to emerging game developers and early-stage studios to support the creation of prototype games that can be showcased to investors. According to John Whittingdale, Minister for Creative Industries, 'our goal is to increase the creative industries' value by an additional £50 billion by 2030, which can only be achieved by maximizing the potential of our world-class video game industry.' The Minister added, 'the UK is renowned for producing exceptional video games, and we aim to build upon this success by encouraging talented developers and early-stage studios to apply for the necessary support to create more innovative titles that captivate gamers worldwide.' The expanded fund is also expected to attract more private investment into the UK gaming industry. In June, the UK government unveiled a plan to support the creative industries, with the objective of growing the sector to £50 billion by 2030.
